On friday june 29, 2001 God did something very special in El Salvador:
I ASKED GOD TO DO "SOMETHING SPECIAL": A FIRE CUT OFF ELECTRICITY TO MY EMPLOYER'S DATABASE SERVERS AND IN THE CHAOS THAT FOLLOWED I HANDED OUT PRINTED COPIES OF MY TESTIMONY TO MY COLLEAGUES
For some time I had been willing to share my testimony with my colleagues.
On thursday june 28, 2001 I took 80 copies of a printed version of my testimony. But how was I going to hand out these copies during office hours? So at night I prayed for this. I kneeled, put the pile of testimonies on the floor, put my hands on them, then put my forehead on the floor. Lying facedown I asked God to give me the courage to hand out the testimonies, that his word would not return empty, and in all my talking suddenly I said: that he would do "something special" so that I might hand out the copies the next day during office hours .
On friday june 29, 2001 the whole morning I was trying to gather all my courage to get up and hand out the testimonies. I said to God: "aren't you going to do anything special"? Already in the afternoon I decided to limit me to just the colleagues of my own department, information systems. At last I stood up and handed out about five testimonies. I got back to my desk. A few moments later there were some people running, looking for fire extinguishers. There was a fire at the electricity meter of the nearby building with the information systems servers. The fire was extinguished rapidly, but the current to the building was cut off. Emergency batteries for the servers lasted for half an hour only. All the servers with the information systems had to be shut down. My colleagues could not work any more. They stood up and started walking and talking. In the middle of this chaos I stood up as well and handed out the testimonies. Yes, surely God did "something special".
Wow! That immediately reminded me of the story about Elijah and the prophets of Baal:
36 At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: "O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command .
37 Answer me, O LORD, answer me, so these people will know that you, O LORD, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again."
38 Then the fire of the LORD fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench.
39 When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, "The LORD--he is God! The LORD--he is God!"
(1 Kings 18:36-39)
That was very controlled fire of the LORD, burning up only the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, the soil, the water in the trench, and nothing else. Also this fire at my employer's offices was very confined, burning up only the electricity connection.
Surely this all shows that the Lord is God in El Salvador too and that I am his servant!
